Reds Place Noelvi Marté on IL with Oblique Strain
The Reds have placed infielder Noelvi Marté on the 10-day injured list, retroactive to May 5, after he suffered a left oblique strain. Outfielder Rece Hinds has been recalled to fill his spot on the active roster. Marté was scratched from the team's previous game due to left-side discomfort, and tests confirmed the strain. While the severity remains unclear, even moderate oblique injuries can sideline players for weeks or months, making his absence a notable setback for Cincinnati.
Marté had been a key offensive contributor for the Reds this season, hitting .294/.342/.515 with a 131 wRC+ through 73 plate appearances. His strong performance marked a promising rebound after an 80-game PED suspension derailed his 2024 campaign, leading to struggles that resulted in a minor league assignment to begin 2025. Marté quickly regained form in Triple-A Louisville, earning a mid-April call-up. Now, the Reds will have to manage without his bat while he works toward recovery.
