Royals Sign Stephen Nogosek to Minor League Deal
The Royals have signed right-handed reliever Stephen Nogosek to a minor league contract, assigning him to Triple-A Omaha. The 30-year-old joins Kansas City after a stint in the Mexican League, where he made 10 appearances for the Diablos Rojos. While his surface stats weren’t impressive—allowing 10 runs across nine innings—he showed solid command, striking out 13 while walking just two.
Originally drafted by the Red Sox before being traded to the Mets, Nogosek has 33 major league appearances under his belt, posting a 5.02 ERA in 57 1/3 innings. His 22% strikeout rate and 8.9% walk rate suggest he has the tools of a serviceable reliever, but home run issues have plagued him. Last season, a rough Triple-A stretch with Washington forced him to seek opportunities in independent and international leagues before landing back in affiliated ball with the Royals.
