Corey Seager Returns from IL as Rangers Adjust Roster
The Rangers have activated shortstop Corey Seager from the injured list following his recovery from a hamstring strain suffered on April 23. In a corresponding move, infielder Jonathan Ornelas was optioned to Triple-A, while right-hander Dane Dunning cleared waivers and received an outright assignment to Triple-A. Though Seager is back in the lineup, he is starting at designated hitter for now, with Josh Smith continuing to cover shortstop as the team manages his workload carefully.
Seager’s return provides a much-needed boost to the Rangers’ struggling offense, which has lacked consistency this season. Texas has been among the league’s weakest lineups, with key hitters like Joc Pederson, Marcus Semien, and Jake Burger underperforming. While Seager’s power numbers haven’t fully clicked yet, his .286/.345/.468 slash line and 131 wRC+ in 21 games remain solid. As the Rangers look to turn things around, Seager’s presence could help stabilize their lineup and generate some momentum.
