Rangers Bring in Bret Boone as New Hitting Coach

The Texas Rangers have hired Bret Boone as their new hitting coach, hoping the former three-time All-Star and two-time Silver Slugger winner can help turn around their struggling offense. Boone replaces Donnie Ecker, who was dismissed just a day earlier, and his contract will run through the 2025 season. The opportunity came unexpectedly, as Boone revealed on his podcast that a casual conversation with former Rangers infielder Michael Young led to a call from manager Bruce Bochy, who offered him the coaching position.

Boone takes over an offense that ranks near the bottom of the league in batting average, on-base percentage, slugging percentage, and total runs scored. The Rangers’ 83 wRC+ places them 25th in the majors, underscoring their offensive struggles. In addition to Boone’s hiring, team president Chris Young announced that outfielder Evan Carter will be recalled from Triple-A Round Rock, giving the lineup an added boost. Boone’s experience and leadership could be a key factor in helping Texas find its rhythm at the plate.
