Astros Hopeful for Yordan Alvarez’s Quick Recovery

The Astros remain optimistic about Yordan Alvarez’s return after an MRI confirmed he has a strained muscle in his right hand. Alvarez was placed on the 10-day injured list on Monday, retroactive to Saturday, and while the injury has affected his performance, manager Joe Espada believes it won’t sideline him for an extended period. Espada also noted that the hand issue may have contributed to Alvarez’s slow start at the plate this season.

Alvarez, 27, has struggled offensively, hitting .210 with three home runs and 18 RBI through 29 games—well below his 2023 production, where he batted .308 with 35 homers and 86 RBI. His return could provide a much-needed boost for Houston’s lineup, which currently ranks 21st in runs and 23rd in OPS. The Astros will hope Alvarez regains his rhythm once healed, bringing back his signature power and consistency.
