Blue Jays Place Max Scherzer on 60-Day IL, Make Roster Moves
The Blue Jays have placed Max Scherzer on the 60-day injured list as the veteran right-hander continues to recover from thumb inflammation. The move sidelines him until at least May 29, as he works his way back after receiving a second cortisone shot and throwing off the mound. Fellow right-hander Erik Swanson, who has yet to pitch this season due to a forearm injury, was also transferred to the 60-day IL.
To compensate for the roster shifts, Toronto signed Spencer Turnbull and Jose Urena to one-year contracts, creating space on the 40-man roster. Turnbull, 32, was optioned to the Florida Complex League, while Urena, 33, joins the team after being designated for assignment by the Mets last week. As the Blue Jays navigate early-season injuries, these moves aim to stabilize their pitching depth.
