White Sox Place Andrew Benintendi on IL, Add Nick Maton to Roster

The White Sox have placed outfielder Andrew Benintendi on the 10-day injured list due to a left calf strain, retroactive to May 5. Infielder Nick Maton has been selected to take his spot on the active roster, filling a vacancy that was already available after right-hander Penn Murfee was outrighted earlier in the week. Benintendi was removed from Sunday’s game with calf tightness and has missed the last two contests, but if the injury is minor, he could return in just over a week.

With Chicago sitting at 10-26, the worst record in the American League, Benintendi’s absence adds another challenge for the struggling club. The Sox would likely prefer to move him before the trade deadline, but his contract—$16.5 million in both 2025 and 2026, followed by a $14.5 million salary in 2027—could limit interest. Additionally, his underwhelming performance with the White Sox so far makes a trade difficult, leaving his future uncertain as the team navigates the season.
