Casey Lawrence Drawing Interest from Multiple Teams
Right-hander Casey Lawrence is receiving attention from multiple teams after electing free agency following his designation for assignment by the Blue Jays. Sportsnet's Ben Nicholson-Smith reports that Toronto is still in discussions with Lawrence about a possible reunion, though other clubs are also showing interest in the veteran swingman.
Lawrence has had a whirlwind season, beginning with the Mariners before being designated for assignment three times. While he twice cleared waivers and re-signed with Seattle, the Blue Jays claimed him on his third DFA before releasing him after just one game. Across five major league seasons, he has pitched 136 2/3 innings with a career 6.59 ERA. Although he continues to work as a starter in the minors, his last MLB start came in 2017. Teams are now weighing his experience as they consider adding him to their pitching staff.
