Rangers Place Leody Taveras on Outright Waivers
The Rangers have placed outfielder Leody Taveras on outright waivers, meaning he can continue playing for Texas until he is claimed by another team. If a club picks him up, they will assume the remaining $3.8 million of his 2025 salary, which comes from a total of $4.75 million. Unlike a standard designation for assignment, outright waivers allow Taveras to remain active while awaiting potential claims.
With more than three years of Major League service time, Taveras has the option to decline a minor league assignment if he clears waivers and instead elect free agency. However, since he has less than five years of MLB service, choosing free agency would mean forfeiting his remaining salary. His future now depends on whether another team is willing to absorb his contract or if he decides to test the open market.
