Reds to Place Hunter Greene on IL with Groin Strain
The Reds are set to place right-hander Hunter Greene on the 15-day injured list after he suffered a Grade 1 right groin strain. Greene exited his most recent start after just three innings, attempting to warm up for the fourth before calling a trainer to the mound. Although the official move has not yet been made, manager Terry Francona confirmed that it will happen before Greene’s next scheduled start. With IL stints eligible for backdating by three days, the Reds can make the transaction at their discretion without affecting his earliest possible return date.
Greene has been a dominant force for Cincinnati this season, posting a stellar 2.36 ERA over eight starts. His impressive 34.7% strikeout rate and 4.5% walk rate have made him one of the most effective pitchers in the league, leading all qualified starters in K-BB%. While his advanced metrics suggest a bit of luck in his numbers, his overall performance remains outstanding. Losing him for any period will be a blow to the Reds' rotation, and his absence will force the team to adjust while awaiting his recovery timeline.
