Kris Bryant Set for Back Procedure Amid Injury Struggles

Rockies slugger Kris Bryant is scheduled to undergo an ablation procedure on his lower back as he continues to battle persistent pain. Manager Bud Black characterized the operation as minimally invasive and expressed optimism that Bryant could resume baseball activities within days. However, this marks another setback in Bryant’s tenure with Colorado, as he has been sidelined since April 14 due to lumbar degenerative disc disease. His time with the Rockies has been plagued by injuries, including multiple back-related issues, foot problems, and a fractured finger in 2023.

Bryant, now in the fourth year of his seven-season, $182 million contract, has struggled to find consistent playing time due to his ongoing health concerns. The Rockies initially deployed him as a designated hitter to ease his workload, but his offensive production remained below expectations, hitting just .154 with two doubles in 11 games. Despite his injuries, Bryant has made it clear that retirement is not in his plans, leaving Colorado hopeful that the upcoming procedure can help him regain stability on the field.
