Giancarlo Stanton Working Toward Late-May Return to Yankees

Yankees designated hitter Giancarlo Stanton is progressing toward a potential return by the end of May as he continues his recovery from elbow tendinitis in both arms. Stanton, 35, took live batting practice at Yankee Stadium on Tuesday, facing right-hander Jake Cousins in two plate appearances. The Yankees recently moved him to the 60-day injured list, making May 27 the earliest possible date for his return—a procedural move that allowed them to claim Bryan De La Cruz off waivers.

Stanton expects to complete a rehab assignment before rejoining the team but has yet to determine the timeline. Manager Aaron Boone noted that Stanton likely won't require an extended stint in the minors since he serves only as a designated hitter. While Stanton acknowledged he will need to manage lingering elbow pain, he remains confident in his ability to play through it once he’s back in the lineup.
