Angels Sign Andrew Vasquez to Minor League Deal

The Angels have reached an agreement with left-handed reliever Andrew Vasquez on a minor league contract, giving him another shot at returning to the majors. Vasquez will earn a prorated $800,000 salary for any time he spends on the big-league roster, with an upward mobility clause set for July 1 and an opt-out on August 1 if he hasn’t been called up.

Vasquez began the season in the Mexican League, allowing just three unearned runs over 7 2/3 innings while picking up three saves. He spent last season in Triple-A with the Tigers, where he struggled with a 5.11 ERA over 68 2/3 innings. Despite an off year, Vasquez has historically posted strong strikeout numbers, and the Angels will be hoping he can regain his form and contribute to their bullpen depth.
