Triston Casas Expected to Miss 2025 Season After Knee Surgery

The Red Sox have placed first baseman Triston Casas on the 10-day injured list after he suffered a ruptured left patellar tendon during last night’s game. Chief baseball officer Craig Breslow confirmed that Casas will undergo surgery and is not expected to return this season. To fill the roster spot, Boston has selected Abraham Toro’s contract from Triple-A Worcester while also reinstating Brennan Bernardino from the bereavement list and optioning Luis Guerrero to Triple-A.

Casas’ injury, sustained when he awkwardly hit the first base bag, was visibly severe, with the first baseman requiring a stretcher to leave the field. While he remains on the 10-day IL for now, a move to the 60-day IL is expected when the team needs to free up a roster spot. The Red Sox must now determine how to fill the void at first base, with Breslow indicating that all options remain open, though shifting Rafael Devers is possible, while prospects Roman Anthony and Marcelo Mayer are unlikely to take over the role.
