Correa Breaks Slump as Buxton Powers Twins' Lineup

Carlos Correa celebrated his first hit of the 2025 season in the Twins' 6-1 victory over the White Sox, putting an end to his frustrating 0-for-19 start. Despite knowing slumps are part of the game, the relief was evident as he watched his third-inning single sneak through the right side of the infield. Now in his 11th season, Correa expressed gratitude for getting on the board, believing it was time to gain momentum. Minnesota had secured its first win on Tuesday, yet their top hitters had struggled, with Correa going hitless and Byron Buxton managing only minimal production. Through the first five games, the duo had combined for a .057 batting average and a .165 OPS, leaving room for improvement.

That momentum arrived in full force as Correa and Buxton stepped up in the series-clinching win. Buxton wasted no time, launching a 446-foot home run to left-center in the first inning, giving starter Pablo López an early lead. López capitalized, tossing seven innings of one-run ball, describing the advantage as “playing with house money.” Correa finally broke his slump in the third, delivering the long-awaited single that sent his arms skyward in celebration. Manager Rocco Baldelli acknowledged Correa’s strong at-bats throughout the season's early struggles, emphasizing that his lack of hits had defied expectations given the quality of his approach.
